To reshape a map frame, select the map frame in the Contents pane. A map frame can be reshaped, so a rectangular map frame can become circular and vice versa. Modify a map frameĪfter you've inserted a map frame, you can make changes to its appearance and properties. You can then activate the map to adjust the extent. When you change the map referenced by a map frame, the map draws at the default extent. You can also choose to create an empty map frame. On the Options tab, under Map, choose a different map or scene from the drop–down menu. To change the map, right-click the map in the Contents pane and choose Properties. Many elements, such as north arrows and scale bars are linked to map frames on the layout. You can change the map referenced by a map frame at any time. This map is added as a rectangle map frame at the default map extent. You can also create a map frame by dragging a map from the Catalog pane onto the layout. You can adjust the scale by clicking the Scale drop-down menu at the bottom of the layout view and choosing or typing a new scale. The scale of the map may change to preserve the extent. ![]()

![]() The ripple effect of upgrades needed so that your dungeon can even hold that much rock is ludicrous. Getting it to Level 4, the cost rockets to 50,000. To give an example of how crudely this system has been implemented, upgrading your Dungeon Heart - the core of your lair - to Level 3 requires only a few thousand rocks. The head bone, in this case, is connected to the wallet. You need to level up your workshop, but to do that you need more rock than you can store, but upgrading your rock storage means saving up more gold than you can store, but upgrading that. By constantly ratcheting up the amounts required, the game creates an ingenious but ruthless domino effect. Progress is impossible without upgrading your various rooms, and to do that you need gold or rock, your stockpiles of which have a finite ceiling that must be raised by upgrades. Of course, of course, the economy is stacked in such a way that you're forever being steered towards the gems. ![]() Everything you do has an immediate cost counted in one of the first three currencies, and a countdown timer that can be swept away with the fourth. There are four currencies at play here, three of which are in-game - gold, rock and mana - and the inevitable gems which can be purchased with real money. The big difference is that wherever there's a crack in the gameplay, EA has hammered in a wedge in the shape of a paywall. Our old horny host cheekily makes fun of micro-payments even as he's ramming them down your throat. ![]() The viewpoint is loftier, the art style more cartoony, but almost every feature from the 1997 game remains in place. It was a near-perfect feedback loop of routine and invention.Īnd, credit where it's due, EA's Mythic studio has revived that gameplay style very accurately. ![]() The more stuff you discovered, the more new things you could build. The more you expanded your labyrinth, the more stuff you discovered. You did this by using an expanding army of imps to dig out new rooms, which you could then use to house traps, treasure and monster-spawning hatcheries. It was one of the first "tower defence" games, for example, flipping gaming convention upside down by casting the player as an evil tyrant, crafting the most perfectly evil lair in which to trap and kill do-gooder enemies who enter your hallways looking to save the world. Revisit the original Dungeon Keeper today and be amazed at just how many of its ideas have been reborn in mobile games. It is, at least, easy to see why EA revived this beloved cult classic in this fashion. That's because any critique of this remake of Bullfrog's 1997 PC hit can't help but slide down the slippery slope towards being a critique of free-to-play gaming in general, and that's when people start banging the table and raising their voices and it all goes a bit Jeremy Kyle. ![]() ![]() Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or not supported any longer. This will help if you installed an incorrect or mismatched driver. Try to set a system restore point before installing a device driver. It is highly recommended to always use the most recent driver version available. You'd think this would just make the camera blurry all the time, but it doesn't. The best workaround is to disable autofocus. Here's the workaround on Raspbian (Debian) for the Raspberry Pi. It refocuses unnecessarily sometimes every few seconds making the camera nearly unusable. Moreover, constantly check with our website in order to make sure that you don’t miss a single new release. The Microsoft Lifecam HD-6000 autofocus is notoriously annoying. Therefore, if you consider applying this package, hit the download button, and install it on your computer. When it comes to the installation process, the steps are very simple, as each manufacturer tries to make them as easy as possible, so that every user can perform the update on their own – simply run the package and follow the on-screen instructions for a complete installation. In addition to that, updating the software on your device can fix various problems that might be encountered during the product’s lifetime, and improve existing features like image quality, or add support for new ones. Red Alert 2, meanwhile, is partly saved by some rather lusciously rendered buildings and scenery, its excellent array of unique sides and units making it one of our more favoured notches in Westwood's bed-post.Īfter Westwood was closed by EA, and willing staff fed into EA Los Angeles, the more sterile series entry C&C: Generals emerged, which, while rough around the edges, does a good job of living up to the franchise name. While the 'rock, paper, scissors' style of gameplay is still as effective as ever, our beefy gaming PC weeps at Tiberian Sun's lacklustre selection of screen resolutions. ![]() Westwood's Las Vegas studio was bought out by EA in 1998, and with a shiny new EA Gaines logo donning its boxes, Westwood began pumping out a new breed of C&C games. It's true that the more recent 3D series entries are looking a little dated too. C&C's simple-natured approach to the genre seems to have greatly assisted its battle against the harsh ravages of time. Technical qualms aside, after a few afternoon skirmish sessions I was locked in a kind of nostalgic tractor beam - and there was no Obi-Wan Kenobi around to shut it off. Having said that, the live-action cut-scenes and synthy soundtrack are, surprisingly, still impressive today, which is a notable feat for a game running at a resolution smaller than your average Minesweeper window. ![]() The first obvious note is that the game's VGA graphics haven't quite stood the test of time, while Red Alert's Soviets sound more like Avid Merrion these days than actual Russians. To The BoneĪfter spending an afternoon's light typing to get all the serial numbers in, I finally managed to claw my way in to the original C&C. Suddenly, Asda's bargain counter isn't very impressive anymore. So that's all of the original Tiberian series games, all of the Red Alerts, the latest offering Generals, plus legions of expansions and even the red-headed step-child of the series, Renegade chucked in for only 30 notes. But if you're looking for anti-capitalist EA bashing, turn away now: 12 C&C games for $29.99, amazingly squeezed onto a single DVD? Sounds like an absolute steal to us.ĭon't adjust your eyes - you read that correctly: The Last Decade wields 12 whole games from the C&C series, which was born way back in 1995 in Westwood Studio's then-garage headquarters. Now that the series is under the stern gaze of EA Games, a money-raking C&C collaboration was only a matter of time. The truth is, I have ten years of childish habits stemming from this veteran series of RTS games, from demo-truck convoys to infinitely-stretching rows of tesla coils - truly, the Command & Conquer series is a long stretch of gaming gold.īut the question is, with RTS titans like Supreme Commander on the horizon, is the old genre champion worth another look? The Test Of Time Never mind Special Forces teams - if the pooches enlisted in the British army were as lethal as the man-hunting German shepherds from Red Alert, then the world's bloody conflicts would be sorted in a matter of hours, to the fanfare of terrified screams and canine growling. ![]() I Have a confession to make one of my all-time greatest guilty pleasures is buying a small army of Red Alert attack dogs, sticking on The Ride Of The Valkyries and going on a doggie killing spree. ![]() ![]() ![]() Uses a different naming scheme than other emulators. With the inclusion of this feature sits the game's biggest revelation: night racing. The big additions, though, are the weather and time effects, with both offering real 'wow' moments, despite the limitations of the title's parent hardware.Įmploying a simplistic menu, the race start time can be adjusted, allowing you to drive at dawn, dusk, or a combination of both courtesy of the time acceleration slider. Three-dimensional crowds are an important new inclusion this time around, as is an improved artificial intelligence model which can actually put up a clean racing fight. While there’s still a feeling of detachment to the real-world excitement of racing thanks to enforced rolling starts, the game takes great strides in making the tracks feel more alive. Add these to some wonderful city tracks, a handful of off-road stages, and Gran Turismo’s brilliant fantasy circuits, and there is no shortage of places to race.Īnd all of this is presented with a lot more passion than in previous years. British fans will be particularly pleased with the inclusion of Brands Hatch in both Indy and GP forms, while the abovementioned Silverstone boasts numerous permutations, including the in-field Stowe circuit. ![]() From Silverstone to Spa to Le Mans, every iconic track in the world is here, and in plenty of variations. Featuring a remarkable roster of the world’s greatest circuits, this really feels like a definitive selection of driving experiences. Still, the somewhat disappointing car catalogue is more than made up for by the impressive track list. And while the distinction between standard and premium models has gone, close-ups still show the very obvious differences in production quality. The result is a painfully obvious dearth of favourites from the past five or six years, and a lot of unnecessary variations on low-key vehicles designed to hit the big marquee figure. The now customary selection of Nissan Skyline's make their unwelcome return, and while new cars such as the KTM X-Bow and the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 represent welcome additions, the vast majority of the cars are available in Gran Turismo 5. While the roster is undoubtedly impressive, however, there are still a number of hangovers from Gran Turismo 4. The more responsive suspension and handling ultimately makes the cars feel more controllable, but crucially not to the point of frustration unlike many driving games, if you make a mistake, it will be your fault. Cars now respond better to sharp turns, and clipping curbs gives a little kick to the rear as you stumble over them. The first major difference is to the suspension model, which even to the most casual player feels noticeable straight away. Impressively, considering how strong the series has always been once you're behind the actual wheel, it's amazing that things have improved yet again. ![]() Of course, all of this would be meaningless if the on-track action wasn't up to scratch. Granted, the first run around a track will have lengthy loading times, but future visits will see this delay drop significantly. This means that you can jump straight into the release - admittedly, after a mandatory day one patch - and you won't be stuck staring at too many progress bars. It's a monumental improvement.Īnother immediately noticeable step forward is the sharp drop in loading times, with the game now taking it upon itself to install as you play. Meanwhile, in-game options and quick access buttons are tucked away in a sub-menu, which can be pulled up at any time. ![]() Drill down a little deeper and the menu structure continues to impress, with tracks and cars easily viewable across multiple pages, and progress in certain events all displayed in one hub. Spread across multiple panels, the main menu gives you access to all of the career options, car dealerships, tuning features, and arcade modes from the comfort of one well presented menu. ![]() Releasing its successor after the PlayStation 4's launch could have proved a risky move for the Japanese studio, but it's one that has paid off handsomely, correcting the mistakes of its current generation counterpart.Īnd that’s something that is clear as soon as you start the game. With menu navigation harder to decipher than the Rosetta Stone and a soulless feel to the game’s structure, the end product was one that ultimately divided opinion. With a troubled development period - and an even more troubled release - it’s fair to say that Gran Turismo 5 didn’t quite hit the same lofty heights as its predecessors. ![]() ![]() ![]() Change the normality of X-Ray slaughter cams, or turn them off altogether. The most magical addition is that, somehow, Oculus has dramatically reduced the screen-door effect you get from looking at magnified pixels an inch in front of your eyes. Your avatar now works across Gear VR and the Oculus Rift, providing a consistent virtual identity for all your headset shenanigans. There are already 700 apps available for Gear VR, and Oculus says the new headset will launch with two dozen controller-optimized titles with another 50 or so in development.
